The Foundation of Pastoral Training of the Holy Archdiocese of Athens realizing the vision of His Beatitude Archbishop of Athens and All Greece Mr. Ieronymos II, within the framework of the project «Development of Three-Dimensional Productions for the Holy Monastery of Hosios Loukas in Boeotia» of the act «Digitization of Sacred Relics of Parish Churches», with the awarding authority being the Foundation of Pastoral Training of the Holy Archdiocese of Athens and the project contractor being the Foundation of the Hellenic World, presents a virtual reality application for the Holy Monastery of Hosios Loukas in Boeotia.
The visitor, using VR headsets, is transported to the past of the Holy Monastery of Hosios Loukas, aiming to experience an intense and unique immersive experience. The approach followed is that of narrative immersion, where the user is immersed in the space of the plot of a story, as happens to a reader of a book or a viewer of a film.
This experience, «War and Peace», attempts to illuminate selected moments of the long history of the Monastery, moments that are historical, mainly connected to war events, but also moments of peaceful everyday life, such as those surely known by the Monastery and the surrounding area.
In this application, the protagonists are the people, their hopes and expectations, their destructions and sorrows, their lives, and their relationships with the monastery of Hosios Loukas and monasticism in general.
The monuments, architectural or artistic details, or precious objects form the setting that surrounds them and with which they interact, so that the micro-narratives are activated and the narrative immersion of the user is enhanced.
