DIACHRONIES

A DIALOGUE BETWEEN THE COLLECTIONS OF

THE DIACHRONIC MUSEUM OF LARISSA

WITH CONTEMPORARY GREEK ARTISTS

AT THE «HELLENIC COSMOS» CULTURAL CENTRE

OF THE FOUNDATION OF THE HELLENIC WORLD

Exhibition Curator: Iris Kritikou

The exhibition «DIACHRONIES», which was first presented in May 2018 at the Diachronic Museum of Larissa, is being presented for the first time in Athens from February 25, 2020, at The «Hellenic Cosmos» Cultural Centre. The exhibition constitutes an organic dialogue between the original exhibits from the collections of the Museum of Larissa and works by contemporary Greek artists.

Following the corresponding chronological path covered by the exhibits of the Museum (important prehistoric findings such as house models, tools and figurines, iron age weapons, archaic objects, classical and Roman sculptures and funerary steles, jewelry, glass objects and utensils, coins and gold wreaths, Roman mosaic floors with an emphasis on the Worship and depiction of Dionysus, early Byzantine reliefs, ceramic plates, Byzantine icons and frescoes, Jewish funerary steles, fragments of frescoes from the unique houses of Schwartz in Ambelakia, as well as Islamic objects), 52 significant Greek artists, in collaboration with the Museum’s scientific team and the exhibition curator, propose existing works or create new ones in dialogue with the museum’s permanent exhibits, with the intention of establishing an organic dialogue with them, as well as verifying the concept of Diachrony that runs through Greek art both thematically and technically, as well as aesthetically or symbolically.

The intention of the scientific team and the curator is a multifaceted dialogue of emblematic exhibits, as well as ancient objects not exhibited in the permanent exhibition, which are presented for the first time on the occasion of the exhibition, with contemporary artworks that narrate in parallel and equally fascinating ways the human adventure in space and time.

The transfer to Athens is being realized as a synergy between the Ephorate of Antiquities of Larissa and the Foundation of the Hellenic World, and will be accompanied by guided tours, educational programs, workshops with the participating artists, and a scientific conference on the theme of «DIACHRONIES», with the participation of archaeologists and artists. The detailed program and dates of the parallel events will be announced in a subsequent press release.

The works of the participating artists, self-standing sculptures, jewelry and tools, utensils, installations, and constructions, as well as paintings, will be presented in an organic, aesthetic, and conceptual dialogue with the exhibits of the Museum that will be displayed in Athens.

The participating artists are:
