A two-day event with subject: "New technologies in education - their application in the Museum and at School"

On 10 and 12 May 1999 a two day event was organised at the Cultural Centre of the Foundation of the Hellenic World "Hellenic Cosmos" with subject: "New technologies in education - their application in the Museum and at School". The subject of this two-day event, which was addressed to educators of elementary and secondary education, was the development of alternative and modern means of education with the utilisation of new technology. Specifically the following subjects were examined:

  1. How the presentation of Hellenic history in the Internet in a reliable, multifaceted, lively way and at the same time based in modern bibliography, can contribute to the teaching of history.
  2. How the student can get to know archaeology and history by "travelling" to Delphi through an educational CD-ROM, to visit and get to know a city through virtual reality technology and 3D reconstructions of ancient monuments, but also to wonder and learn from his visit to the museum.

This two-day event, besides speeches from executives of the Foundation, educators and representatives of the Ministry of Education, included a tour to the educational exhibition and to the area of virtual reality while the acclaimed documentary about Miletus was shown.
